About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist for a work for hire creating artistic mosaic dominos/chess tables for the City's new Senior Activity Center located at 1900 MLK Boulevard. The artist will create a maximum of three (3) dominos/chess tables, including seating that are artistic in style. The selected artist will be required to fabricate and install the artwork at an outdoor area at the Activity Center.
The theme for the project is playful and must involve mosaics. The tables and seating should be durable, comfortable, and smooth. The Public Art Committee suggests using prefabricated seats and tables for the project. The artist must ensure that the design will be code compliant and can stand up to South Florida weather conditions and wind load requirements. The purchase budget established for the project is $10,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, delivery, and installation.
Artists must submit a resume, artist statement regarding approach to project (maximum 2000 characters), and examples of past artworks similar to this project (minimum 3, maximum 5). Three (3) artists will be shortlisted and paid an honorarium of $200.00. Shortlisted artists will be required to submit detailed design proposals including mock images of the proposed designs and a budget list. The project is open to all professional artists nationwide. Artists are NOT eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff. Contact: Laura Atria, Public Art Program Manager, 954-545-7800 ext. 3813, [email protected]
