About This Call

The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist or artist team for work for hire artistic acoustic sound panels to be located at the new Senior Activity Center, 2005 NW 9th Street, Pompano Beach. The selected artist(s) must have experience with community engagement public art projects and will be required to hold community engagement activities that serve as inspiration for designing the acoustic sound panels. The engagement activities will involve senior citizens of Pompano Beach, and the final artworks will be based on their stories and history.

Throughout the project, the artist(s) shall conduct a minimum of five (5) community engagement and outreach activities with Pompano senior citizens. The final artworks will consist of four (4) artistic acoustic sound panels: two (2) 6 by 20 feet and two (2) 6 by 70 feet. At least one (1) community engagement activity must include audio and video recording of senior citizens' stories documenting the history of Pompano Beach. The artist(s) shall document the project development through photography, writing, video, or other artistic forms. Community engagement activities may include workshops, meetings, charrettes, or other agreed-upon engagement formats. No logos, words, political or religious references, or nudity are permitted in the designs.

The artwork purchase budget is $60,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, and installation. Three (3) artists will be selected to create and present detailed proposals and will each receive an honorarium of $200.00. Eligibility is limited to professional artists located in Broward County. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff. Applicants must submit a resume or CV, 3-5 digital portfolio images relating to the project, and an experience statement (limited to 2000 characters) describing experience with similar community-based projects.
