About This Call

Artist Trust awarded the first Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) in 1988. The GAP is one of the few project grants available to individual artists in Washington State. In 2015, 61 artists working in Literary, Media, Performing and Visual Arts will receive $1,500 project awards. Examples of artist projects include the development, completion or presentation of new work; publication; travel for artistic research or to present or complete work; documentation of work; and advanced workshops for professional development. In lieu of the $1,500 project award, one artist will be eligible for a one-month residency at Centrum and a $500 stipend.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a Washington State resident at the time of application and payment, and a practicing artist dedicated to producing artwork on a regular basis. Applicants may not be recipients of an Artist Trust GAP or Fellowship from 2010–2014, recipients of three Artist Trust GAPs (artists may receive three in a lifetime), recipients of the James W. Ray Distinguished Artist or Arts Innovator Awards, recipients of more than one Artist Trust grant per calendar year, graduate or undergraduate matriculated students enrolled in any degree program at the deadline date, or current Artist Trust staff, Board of Trustees, honorary committee, consultants, contractors, current GAP panelists or their immediate family. Projects must occur after GAP funds are awarded and within a year of the awarded grant.

Centrum is located on Washington's Olympic Peninsula in Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. The residency includes a private living space with two or three bedroom cabins and apartments supplied with linens and a kitchen equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, utensils, dishes, pots, and pans. A coin-operated laundromat and on-site café are available. Centrum does not provide meals or transportation. Artists interested in the residency should indicate their interest when applying by providing a summary of how they would use it. Artists can only receive the residency once.
