About This Call

Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) provide support for individual artist projects in the Visual, Performing, Literary and Media Arts. These categories encompass experimental/emerging fields, cross-disciplinary and traditional/folk art. Examples of artist projects include the development, completion or presentation of new work; publication; travel for artistic research or to present or complete work; documentation of work; and advanced workshops for professional development.

Eligibility is limited to Washington State residents who are practicing artists (defined as dedicated to producing artwork on a regular basis). Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by April 15, 2014, and must be residents of Washington State at the time of application and when the award is issued in October 2014. Applicants may only submit one GAP application per year. Ineligible applicants include graduate or undergraduate matriculated students enrolled in any degree program after April 15, 2014; current board members, honorary committee members, staff or consultants for Artist Trust or their immediate family members; members of the 2014 GAP Selection Panel; and recipients of 2012 or 2013 GAP awards. Applications must be made in the name of an individual artist; applications made in the name of collectives, companies, bands, groups and ensembles will not be accepted. Artist Teams (two or more artists with a documented history of creating and presenting work together) must contact Artist Trust to verify eligibility.

All applications must include work samples (up to 10 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files for a maximum of 13 total samples), project description, completed budget form, and résumé. Literary Arts applicants do not need to submit visual work samples. The Selection Panel evaluates applications based on artistic excellence of the work sample, the panel's subjective response to the project in comparison to other submissions, and the reasonable likelihood that the project can be realized with GAP support based on the applicant's budget. Projects must occur within one year. Results will be announced in October 2014, with recipients notified via email. Recipients will receive payment 6-8 weeks after announcement and must complete 6-month and 12-month surveys.
