About This Call

Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) provide support for individual artist projects in the Visual, Performing, Literary and Media Arts, including experimental/emerging fields, cross-disciplinary and traditional/folk art. Examples of eligible projects include the development, completion or presentation of new work; publication; travel for artistic research or to present or complete work; documentation of work; and advanced workshops for professional development.

Applicants must be practicing artists (dedicated to producing artwork on a regular basis) and residents of Washington State at the time of application and when the award is issued in October 2013. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by April 15, 2013, and may only submit one GAP application per year. Applicants must not be graduate or undergraduate matriculated students enrolled in any degree program after April 15, 2013; current or former board members, honorary committee members, staff or consultants for Artist Trust or their immediate family members; members of the 2013 GAP Selection Panel; or recipients of a 2011 or 2012 GAP. Applications must be made in the name of an individual artist; applications from collectives, companies, bands, groups and ensembles will not be accepted. Artist Teams (two or more artists with a documented history of creating and presenting work together) must contact Artist Trust to verify eligibility.

All applications must include work samples (up to 10 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files for a maximum of 13 total samples, with exceptions for Literary Arts applicants), project description, completed budget form, and résumé. The Selection Panel will evaluate applications based on artistic excellence of the work sample, the panel's subjective response to the project in comparison to other submissions, and the reasonable likelihood that the project can be realized with GAP support based on the applicant's budget. Results will be announced in October 2013. Contact Miguel Guillén, Program Manager, at [email protected] with questions.
