About This Call
The Arts Innovator Award (AIA) recognizes artists who demonstrate innovation in their art practice. This unrestricted award of $25,000 each is given annually to two Washington State generative artists of all disciplines who are originating new work, experimenting with new ideas, taking risks, and pushing the boundaries in their respective fields.
Eligibility requirements include: minimum of five years in professional art practice; Washington State residency at the time of application and at the time of payment (November 2014); 18 years of age or older by June 23, 2014. Applicants may be an individual artist or a team of artists with a history of working as a unit (teams must contact the Grants Program Manager to verify eligibility). Applications must be made in the name of an individual artist. Ineligible applicants include graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in any degree program after June 23, 2014; current Artist Trust staff, board members, honorary committee members, consultants, contractors or their immediate family members; those affiliated with Chihuly Studio, Portland Press or the Dale and Leslie Chihuly Foundation; lineal descendants/ancestors of Dale or Leslie Chihuly; spouses of lineal descendants/ancestors of Dale or Leslie Chihuly; and previous AIA recipients.
All applicants must submit: Application Form, Artist Résumé, Essay, Work Samples, and a Letter of Recommendation. Work samples may include up to 20 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files (maximum 23 total samples). A maximum of two work sample types are allowed for every discipline category. Selection will be based on advancement of the artist's practice as evidenced by their body of work, creative excellence as presented in submitted materials, and the professional background of the artist. Results will be announced in October 2014.
