About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist for a mural to be installed on the back exterior wall located at 60 & 50 NE 1st Ave. The wall is approximately 130 feet long by 20 feet high and is located in the Innovation and Creative Arts District, two blocks south of Artists Alley and one block south of the Bailey Contemporary Arts. The mural will serve as a significant gateway to downtown.
Possible themes include patterns, simple and flowing designs, abstract compositions, bright colors, festive and welcoming imagery. The design should have a strong presence with a creative concept. Logos are not permitted. The materials, design, and palette must withstand local weather and be amenable to ongoing maintenance. Spray paint is encouraged as the wall is textured. The selected artist must apply a UV resistant sealant to the finished product. A site visit is not required but is recommended. Reference existing murals in Artists Alley at www.pbpublicart.com.
The selected artist will receive $15,000, which includes all taxes, insurance, fees, and equipment needed to complete the mural (such as cherry picker, paint, etc.). The Public Art Program Manager will review and inspect the design in person during installation and may make suggestions that the artist must follow. The selected artist must create a timelapse video of the mural as it develops. Applicants must submit 3-5 images of work samples. National eligibility. Entry deadline: November 13, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Up to 3 applications allowed per artist.
