About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking an artist or artist team to create a mural on two surfaces of an underpass on F Street SE between 4th Street SE and 5th Street SE, located between Auburn High School and the Auburn Community Center and Les Gove Park. The mural will transform large gray concrete walls into colorful featured artwork and serve as a graffiti deterrent. Each side of the mural will be approximately 85 feet in length and 13 feet in height. The project budget is $10,000 inclusive of materials. The artist will be responsible for providing all supplies, materials, labor, and volunteer management to complete the project. Community engagement and volunteer participation are welcome if desired by the artist.
Eligibility is limited to artists residing in King or Pierce Counties of Washington State. Applicants cannot be members of the Auburn Arts Commission or City of Auburn employees. Designs must be appropriate for public display and viewing by a general audience, should stand out artistically to passersby, and cannot include political or religious content, intellectual property breaches, trademarks, images of illegal activity, advertisements, logos, signage, promotion of any business or product, or attachment of objects to the surfaces. All designs are subject to review and approval by Arts Program staff.
Application materials include a statement or letter of interest, a resume listing prior mural experience, up to three proposed designs (rough sketches in JPEG or PDF format), and images of past work demonstrating ability to complete the project (up to 7 images in JPEG or PDF format). The deadline for submission is April 26, 2019 at 10:59 p.m. MDT. The selected artist will finalize designs with input and approval from the Arts Commission and City Staff, with the mural to be completed by summer 2019. Contact Allison Hyde, Arts Coordinator, at [email protected] or 253-804-5043 for questions.
