Artist Membership Application

The Society of American Artists invites artists to apply for membership through a juried selection process. A jury of Signature Members reviews applications to determine artist membership. The Society strives to accept only the best quality work and emphasizes education via high standards of artistic excellence in exhibitions and programming.

Eligible work includes fine art in traditional media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and carving. The Society does not currently consider photography, digitally generated art, or purely illustrative work for membership applications. Jurors evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, including composition, mastery of medium, and technical skill. For 2-D work, demonstrated mastery in the depiction of light, use of color, and value are considered. For 3-D work, mastery of form, control of surface texture, and patina are evaluated.

Applicants must submit 5 works of recent, high-quality work for jury review. For 3-D works, two views are required for each artwork. Submissions must be original JPEG image files at least 2400 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. The jury fee is $40 (non-refundable). The entry deadline is January 15, 2025. Entries may be edited until the deadline. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the venue if juried into exhibitions.
