Artist Membership Application

The Society of Animal Artists (SAA) is a world-renowned organization founded in 1960 that has become the standard bearer of excellence in animal art. The Society seeks to reposition animal art as an important contemporary art form by creating a community of like-minded artists. The annual Art and the Animal exhibition provides artists with opportunities for greater recognition.

To apply for artist membership, submit 5 works of your best, recent work for jury consideration. For 3D works, two views are required for each artwork. Applicants may be elected to either Signature or Associate membership. Signature members are considered full members with all privileges, recognized as having attained the highest level of ability in animal art, and are entitled to vote and use the initials "SAA" when signing artwork. Associate members are granted many privileges and are eligible to submit work to all exhibitions but may not vote or use the "SAA" initials. Associates may become Signature Members by jury vote or by earning points in Society shows; they are automatically promoted to Signature if they receive the Award of Excellence in an Annual Exhibition.

Membership benefits include the ability to submit to the SAA's Annual Exhibition and regional shows, SAA newsletters and communications, listing on the SAA website and catalog, promotion via social media, participation in lectures, presentations, workshops, and meetings, access to Team Partner discounts, attendance at receptions and award banquets, and participation in outings and field trips. The jury fee is $40 (non-refundable, payable by credit card). Upon acceptance, dues are $275 total ($100 initiation fee plus $175 annual dues), due within 30 days of notification. Submissions must be original, high-quality JPEG images only. The SAA does not consider photography, digitally generated art, or purely illustrative work for membership applications.
