About This Call
The Umbrella Arts Center is seeking an Artist-in-Residence for the period September 1, 2020 through August 15, 2021. The selected artist will receive free access to a recently renovated studio space of approximately 220 square feet with a large south-facing window, hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and climate control. The residency includes opportunity to be involved in the activities and culture of a multi-disciplinary art center, with access to an independent ceramics studio and makerspace, as well as the opportunity to exhibit in The Umbrella's main gallery.
Accepted artists are expected to make regular, active, and productive use of the studio space throughout the residency period. Requirements include presenting a body of work created during the residency for exhibition, presenting a minimum of two public programs to engage the community, participating in The Umbrella's Winter Market and Open Studios event (April 4-5, 2021), attending monthly Artist Meetings and other artist events, documenting and sharing the residency experience via social media and other formats, and maintaining communication with Umbrella staff and participation in program evaluations.
Applications must be submitted through Call for Entry by 11:59 PM on April 3, 2020. The application requires a letter of interest, artist statement, portfolio, resume or curriculum vitae, high-resolution JPEGs of 10-20 pieces of work created within the past two years, an image list with dimensions, medium, and date, a list of three references, and a $35 non-refundable application fee. All applications will be reviewed by a jury of The Umbrella's staff and resident artists. The selected artist will be notified by May 1, 2020.
