About This Call
6th Street Studios & Art Center offers Artist in Residence opportunities for 6 weeks to 3 months (artist's choice) during Fall, Winter, Summer, and Spring sessions. The residency is open to professional and emerging artists of any discipline, age 18 and over. The program seeks artists with proficiency in their selected area(s), comfort with community engagement, self-motivation, and a strong sense of creative direction.
Residency includes 24/7 access to a well-lit 11'x12' community studio with time reservations, an outside work area, pottery kick wheel and kiln, printing press, flat file storage, locker space, light table, and two gender-neutral restrooms (one ADA-compliant). Living quarters must be secured separately by the artist. An end-of-residency exhibition and reception will be provided, along with online exhibition of work produced during residency (if desired). Resident bios and artwork are posted to social media platforms and newsletters, with promotion on Gallery 1202's platforms.
Community engagement is a required component of the residency. Artists must host open studios one day per week (Wed 1-5 PM, Thurs 2-5 PM, Fri 10-6 PM, or Sat 11-3 PM) and have the opportunity to plan and create paid workshop opportunities at $25/hr. Artists residing during spring/summer can apply to be paid teaching artists during Art Camps. Free classes/workshops are also an option. Artists will be connected with local press and media outlets and can participate in Third Friday Artwalks. The front exhibition area is open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-2 PM. Entry fee is $25.00. Work samples should include 5-15 images, with optional audio (0-5) and video (0-5) files.
