About This Call

The LA County Arts Commission and Registrar-Recorder's Office seek a professional artist to serve as a Creative Strategist Artist-in-Residence (AIR) embedded in the Registrar-Recorder's Office. This year-long residency is part of the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Initiative and focuses on the Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) initiative, which aims to create an improved voting experience for LA County's 5.2 million registered voters.

The selected artist will work collaboratively with Registrar-Recorder staff, project partners, and community stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for marketing and educating residents about VSAP. The artist will develop artistic interventions, marketing collateral, and community engagement activities including workshops, convenings, happenings, events, and site-specific artworks. The residency requires part-time onsite participation at the RR/CC office in Norwalk and community locations throughout LA County. The artist will receive an all-inclusive budget of $50,000 per year ($40,000 for artist fees and travel; $10,000 for community engagement and art-making activities).

Eligibility is limited to professional artists who live or work within Los Angeles County. Selection criteria include: artistic merit and professional qualifications; experience working collaboratively with diverse communities; ability to communicate effectively and synthesize complex concepts; broad creative skills applicable to social practice, happenings, artworks, and convenings; understanding of government principles including equity and transparency; basic knowledge of the electoral process; and commitment to VSAP goals. Up to five artists will be selected for interviews and presentations before a final selection is made.
