About This Call

The Art in Public Places (AIPP) Commission of the City of Longmont, Colorado is accepting submissions from artists or teams of artists to paint a mural on a silo located along County Line Road between Highway 119 (3rd Avenue) and 9th Avenue. The selected silo is the middle of three silos owned by the City, positioned South of 9th Avenue and North of County Road 26. The silo is 38.75 feet tall with a circumference of 44.16 feet. It is not necessary to paint the entire silo; selection panelists will consider visibility of the artwork.

County Line Road is well-traveled by commuters, seeing approximately 14,500 cars daily. Union Reservoir lies just east of the silo and is a popular destination for swimmers, boaters, and various recreational activities. The City of Longmont is located about ten miles from the Rocky Mountains foothills, 35 miles northwest of Denver, and 12 miles northeast of Boulder.

Up to $15,000 is available for an artist or team of artists, covering all fees for design, materials, transportation, installation, and artists' insurance. AIPP will provide a stipend toward either scaffolding or a cherry picker. Any practicing visual artist residing in the United States may apply. Artists will be required to maintain a close working relationship with City of Longmont staff, the AIPP Commission, selection panels, and the community, which may include participation in public meetings. Submission requirements include 10 images of past work and an artists' statement. A selection panel will choose three finalists, who will be asked to submit conceptualized drawings and make presentations either in person or via electronic media. Finalists will be notified the week of September 9, 2013. Contact: [email protected] or 303.651.8924.
