Artful Healing

CarolinaEast Medical Center seeks large-scale works by North Carolina artists for the SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center and Alyward Diagnostic Center, scheduled to open in January 2020. Work will be reviewed by a panel of artists, designers, and community leaders with at least three pieces selected for purchase and permanently displayed in the Cancer Center.

Artists may submit up to 5 pieces for a $20 entry fee. Submissions may be a single piece, multiple pieces of a series (including diptych and triptych), or installation works. All work must be at least 3'x3' or larger, with maximum size of 18'x5' horizontally oriented. While there is no theme, the current design plans call for a palette of blues, greens, and earth tones representative of Eastern North Carolina land and seascapes. Pieces will be selected based on artistic merit, longevity requiring minimal upkeep, integration into current architectural and interior design layouts, and ability to fulfill therapeutic goals of redirection and distraction for patients and families.

CarolinaEast will purchase a minimum of three works with guaranteed award amounts of one $2,500 purchase award (Category B) and two $1,000 purchase awards (Category A). Artists will select which purchase awards they would like their works to be eligible for. Submission deadline: October 31, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artist notification: November 15, 2019.
