About This Call
ArtConverge Seminar Series for Artists and Other Creatives offers professional development seminars led by art attorney Sarah Conley Odenkirk. Sessions can be attended in-person in Champaign, Illinois or online via Zoom, and can be taken individually or as a series.
The seminar topics are: Contracts (March 5) covering essential building blocks of contracts for artists, designers, and creative content creators, including how to spot red flags, negotiate key terms, protect work, and manage intellectual property; Intellectual Property (April 2) introducing core principles of copyright, licensing, and ownership as they apply to visual art, design, writing, photography, film, and digital media; Emerging Technology (April 30) providing an introduction to technologies shaping contemporary creative practice including artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, blockchain and NFTs, and immersive media, with emphasis on practical implications and ethical considerations; and Taxes and Financial Planning (May 7) covering self-employment taxes, estimated quarterly payments, deductions, studio and home-office considerations, income from various sources, and record-keeping best practices for artists and creative entrepreneurs.
In-person participation costs $49 per session or $155 for a series pass (20% savings). In-person participants meet at 44 E. Main Street in downtown Champaign, IL and receive printed materials, light refreshments, and networking opportunities. Online participation costs $39 per session or $132 for a series pass (15% savings). An additional 10% discount is available with code EARLY10 for registrations before January 17th.
