About This Call
ArtCenter/South Florida's Studio Residency Program is ideal for artists committed to experimentation and innovation, seeking artistic and professional development, and interested in being part of a dynamic community of local, national, and international artists and creative thinkers. For a period of six months up to two years, artists are granted partially-subsidized studios at ArtCenter's Miami Beach campus located on Lincoln Road in South Beach, a commercial pedestrian mall offering a unique residency experience in an urban, tropical setting.
The program houses 17 partially-subsidized workspaces appropriate for visual artists working in most mediums. Studios range from 175 to 600 square feet, with studio rents charged at $9.00 per square foot annually. Monthly rents range from $260-$700 on average, with additional charges for common area fees, energy surcharge, and 7% sales tax. Shared workspaces are also available. Residents receive 24-hour building access, Wi-Fi access, access to the PRINTshop facility during open lab hours, participation in monthly Studio Crawls, participation in the ARTsmart program, exhibition opportunities in Windows @ Walgreens and other spaces, financial and technical support for production of new work, and potential teaching opportunities within ARTstudies programs for artists with previous teaching experience.
Eligibility requirements include being a working professional artist with deep commitment to their practice, currently based in the US or abroad, and not currently enrolled in an academic program. Alumni artists are eligible but priority is given to artists who have never had a studio residency previously at ArtCenter. International artists should note that ArtCenter does not provide housing or international sponsorship, though a letter of invitation will be provided for visa application. Selection is based on merit of past work, readiness to engage with and benefit from the program, and potential to develop an innovative creative practice and impact the community. The application requires submission of 8-10 images of recent work, artist statement, CV or resume, three references, and a $40 processing fee.
