About This Call
The Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown, NY invites artists to submit work for the fourth annual juried exhibition of Art that Matters to the Planet: Wild America. This exhibition coincides with the 70th anniversary of the publication of Wild America: The Record of a 30,000 Mile Journey Around the Continent by Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher. Kenn Kaufman, an American author, artist, naturalist, and conservationist influenced by Peterson's work, will serve as the 2025 juror.
The exhibition explores three main themes: exploration of wild places in North America and advocacy for their preservation; place-based artworks that share the unique spirit of wilderness; and environmental impact, including conservation efforts over the past 70 years. A list of suggested focus locations from the original Peterson and Fisher journey is provided, though submissions related to other locations are welcome. All categories of art are welcome. Recent works created since 2019 will be given preference. All work must be original to the submitting artist.
Artists will be judged on originality, personal voice or vision, and technical skill. Entry fee is $15.00. Submissions must include information for individual artworks including title, date, processes, materials, dimensions, insurance value, and brief description. Artists may indicate interest in presenting talks, workshops, or demonstrations. All entries must be submitted online by January 10, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists will be notified of selection by February 10, 2025. The exhibition runs March 29 – July 27, 2025. Loan dates are March 14 – August 11, 2025. For crated works, dimensions shall not exceed 78" H x 78" L x 36" W and shall not exceed 150 pounds. The Roger Tory Peterson Institute is responsible for insurance, shipping, installation, and exhibition catalogue production. Selected artists are responsible for packing costs, providing works ready for display, and publication quality images.
