Art Steamboat

Art Steamboat is a juried art competition and exhibition forming part of the Steamboat All Arts Festival. The competition is open to two-dimensional artworks from artists in a five-state area including Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. One artwork piece per artist is permitted, and work must be original concept and design created within the past two years.

Acceptable media include painting (oil, acrylic, water media, pastel, and egg tempera) and drawing (conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, pen & ink, and scratchboard). Not accepted are craft, jewelry, photography, computer-generated work, prints, and textile or fiber art. Framed artwork must not exceed 36 inches in length or width. The entry fee is $40.00. Submissions require one image (1920 pixels on the long side at 72dpi), an artist statement and bio (up to 5,000 characters), and artist contact details.

Thirty finalists will be selected by professional jury. Awards include $10,000 First Place, $2,500 Second Place, $1,000 Third Place, and a People's Choice award. Selected artists will be notified by June 30, 2014. The exhibition runs August 1-17, 2014 at various locations in Steamboat Springs, with an awards reception on August 15 at 6pm. All artwork must be for sale; the competition retains 40% of the sale price with 60% paid to the artist. The juror is Betsy Dillard Stroud, AWS, D.F., NWS, a nationally acclaimed artist and former art historian who has judged over sixty international, national, regional, and state shows.
