Art on the Street Lafayette CO

Art on the Street is a public art program in Lafayette, CO seeking sculpture submissions for outdoor installation. The program is entering its 9th year with 20 sculpture locations to fill. Selected artists receive a $650 honorarium for a one-year installation. Two additional prizes are awarded: the $1000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence and the $250 People's Choice Award. Artists traveling more than 250 miles away receive an additional $100 lodging/travel stipend.

Installations are scheduled for April 3-7, with rain/snow dates of April 10-14. The city's public works crew will install artwork on steel pedestals or concrete pads with metal inserts, working with artists to determine optimal orientation for public viewing. During installation, artists will be interviewed about their work, process, and artistic philosophy. These videos will be featured on the city's website, where each sculpture receives its own dedicated page. The city is launching the Activate Lafayette! mobile app this spring, which will include all Art on the Street locations.

Submissions must include 2-4 images. Eligibility is open to national artists. On average, 1-2 sculptures are purchased from the program each year. Lafayette has won statewide recognition including the Governor's Award for the Arts and features over 20 permanent public art pieces, 70 murals through the Alley Art Amazin' program, and several gallery spaces.
