Art on the Street Lafayette CO

The City of Lafayette Public Art Committee is selecting 20 sculptures for the 2018 Art on the Street program. Artists may submit up to three sculptures for review, with each sculpture submitted in its own application. Three images are required per submission.

Selected artists receive a $750 honorarium for a one-year installation. Additional awards include the $1,000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence and the $250 People's Choice Award. Artists traveling more than 250 miles away receive an additional $100 lodging/travel stipend. Installations are scheduled between April 2-6, 2018, with rain/snow dates of April 9-13, 2018. The city's public works crew will install artwork to steel pedestals or concrete pads with metal inserts, with welding equipment, drills, lifts, and other resources available as needed.

During installation, artists will be interviewed about their work, process, and artistic philosophy. These videos will be featured on the city website, where each sculpture has its own dedicated page. Lafayette is launching the Activate Lafayette! mobile app this spring, which will include all Art on the Street locations. The program also includes a See & Respond! call for entries encouraging community members to respond to the sculptures through poetry, 2-D art, and photography. Entries are displayed at the annual Art on the Street: See & Respond! Meet the Artists Reception held at the Lafayette Public Library in the fall. On average, 1-2 sculptures are purchased from the program each year.
