About This Call
Exhibit your sculpture outdoors in downtown Lafayette, Colorado for one year through the Art on the Street (AOTS) sculpture on loan program. If selected by the Public Art Committee, participating artists receive a $1,200 honorarium for a one-year installation. Three additional prizes are awarded annually: the $1,000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence, the $500 People's Choice Award, and the $500 Most Inspiring! Award. The program is entering its 17th year with twenty sculpture locations to fill. On average, 1-2 sculptures have been purchased from the AOTS program each year.
Submit up to 6 photos of one sculpture per application, with a photo including a size/scale reference highly encouraged. Only one sculpture per application is permitted, and artists may submit up to 3 applications. The Lafayette Public Art Committee considers all submissions based on artistic merit, diversity, inclusion, social equity, and belonging. Installation is scheduled for April 21-24, 2025, with rain/snow alternate dates the following week. The installation crew will carefully install artwork to steel pedestals or concrete pads with steel inserts, with welding equipment, power drills, lifts, and all necessary tools and resources provided.
Each sculpture will be featured on a dedicated web page with artist photo, purchase information, and artist statement. The program holds an annual community engagement art contest called See and Respond! that highlights the sculptures. The Art on the Street, See & Respond! Meet the Artists Reception is held in October and includes an awards and recognition ceremony. Selection notifications will be made by December 2024, with the reception and awards ceremony tentatively scheduled for October 18, 2025. Uninstall is scheduled for April 2026.
