About This Call
Exhibit your sculpture outdoors in Old Town Lafayette, Colorado for one year through the Art on the Street (AOTS) sculpture on loan program. If your sculpture is selected by the Public Art Committee, you will receive an honorarium of $1,200 for a one-year installation. Three additional prizes are awarded each year: the $1,000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence, the $500 People's Choice Award, and the $500 Most Inspiring! Award. The program is entering its 16th year with twenty Art on the Street sculpture locations to fill. On average, 1-2 sculptures have been purchased from the AOTS program each year.
Submit up to 6 photos of one sculpture per application, with a photo including a size/scale reference highly encouraged. Only one sculpture per application is allowed, and artists may submit up to 3 applications. The Lafayette Public Art Committee is committed to community representation and seeks diversity in materials, subject matter, artists, and stories. Selections will be based on artistic merit, diversity, inclusion, social equity, and belonging.
Installations are scheduled for April 22-25, 2024, with rain/snow alternate dates the following week. The installation crew will carefully install your artwork to steel pedestals or concrete pads with steel inserts, with your supervision and assistance. Each sculpture will be featured on the AOTS website with a photo, artist information, and artist's statement. A community engagement art contest called See and Respond! highlights the sculptures, with entries displayed at the Art on the Street, See & Respond! Meet the Artists Reception held in October at the Lafayette Public Library. Timeline: Entries due October 29, 2023; Public Art Committee selections in November 2023; artist notification by December 2023; installation April 22-25, 2024; reception October 19, 2024 (tentative); uninstall April 2025.
