Art on the Street 2023 Call for Outdoor Sculptures

Exhibit your sculpture outdoors in Old Town Lafayette, Colorado for one year as part of the Art on the Street (AOTS) sculpture on loan program. If selected by the Public Art Committee, participating artists receive a $1,200 honorarium for the one-year installation. Three additional prizes are awarded annually: the $1,000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence, the $500 People's Choice Award, and the $500 Most Inspiring! Award. The program is entering its 15th year with 20 Art on the Street sculpture locations to fill. On average, 1-2 sculptures have been purchased from the AOTS program each year.

Submit up to 6 photos of one sculpture per application. A photo with a size/scale reference is highly encouraged. Only one sculpture per application is allowed, though artists may submit multiple applications. The Lafayette Public Art Committee will consider all submissions based on artistic merit, diversity, inclusion, and social equity. Each selected sculpture will be featured on its own web page and in printed brochures in English and Spanish. Installations are scheduled for the second full week of April 2023, with rain/snow alternate dates the following week. Public Works crew will install artwork to steel pedestals or concrete pads with steel inserts under artist supervision.

Key dates: Entries due October 25, 2022; Public Art Committee selections in November 2022; artists notified by December 2022; installation April 2023; reception October 21, 2023 (tentative); uninstall April 2024. The official artists' reception is held at the Lafayette Public Library in October and includes the Art on the Street, See & Respond! Meet the Artists Reception, which features a community engagement art contest highlighting the sculptures. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
