About This Call

Art on the River is a public art exhibition seeking large-scale sculptures for display in Dubuque, Iowa from August 2, 2019 to July 1, 2020.

Work must be of the highest-quality design and construction, able to withstand adverse weather conditions (high winds, rain, heat, snow, and freezing temperatures) and an unsupervised general audience. Unstable, fragile, dangerous, inappropriate, or small, lightweight works will not be accepted. The City is interested in large-scale pieces of considerable mass that can be mounted at ground level. Work will be bolted to a concrete base.

Artists are responsible for delivery, installation, and removal of artwork, with installation assistance provided by the City as needed. Selected artists will receive a $1,500 stipend that may be used to cover expenses associated with delivery and removal. The City will maintain insurance coverage on all work for vandalism, theft, or damage. All artwork must be for sale and will remain on display for the duration specified in the Artist Agreement Form. The City of Dubuque will coordinate all financial transactions relating to artwork sales. The City will receive 25% of the sale price of all sculptures sold during or as a result of the show. Any unsold artwork must be removed by the artist at the end of the exhibition period. Special events will be held throughout the year to promote public art and encourage sculpture purchases.

Applicants may submit up to 3 applications. Submit 3 images of your work. Entry deadline: May 28, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact Jill Connors, Economic Development Director, at (563) 589-4393 or [email protected] for more information.
