About This Call

Art on the Move (AOTM) is an art on loan program that exhibits artwork by regional artists in Longmont, Colorado for up to one year. Regional artists are invited to submit up to three different pieces of sculpture in separate applications to be considered for installation outdoors. Select artists will receive a stipend of $1,000 per piece after delivery and installation of the artwork.

The Art in Public Places Commission seeks to display unique, original artwork of diverse range. All artwork must be size/scale appropriate to available space and will be installed in predetermined spaces selected by the panel. Artwork must be appropriate for public display and will not be considered if it could be interpreted as offensive, religious, or political in nature. Artworks on loan will be concentrated Downtown in St. Stephen's Plaza and along 4th Avenue, but may also include works in alleys, breezeways, and other outdoor locations throughout the city. The selection panel will consider appropriateness, durability, uniqueness, compatibility with available site, and safety. Sculptural submissions for outdoors must be durable and able to handle extreme weather conditions, including intense sunlight, high winds, hail, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. All work must tolerate direct sunlight/sun exposure; individual pieces that may fade will not be considered.

Submissions are due by March 10, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. MST. Regional artists without regard to race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical disability are eligible. Artists may submit works that are completed and available for installation April 24-25, 2024. Submissions must include up to three images per application, optional artist statement (limit 400 words), annotated image list with title, year, medium/materials, dimensions, current location, value, approximate weight, and date of availability. Installation plans, dimensions with preferred installation method, equipment requirements, and contact information must also be included. The City of Longmont will be responsible for installation. The artist is responsible for completing a City contract, submitting installation plans prior to scheduling delivery, providing specialty hardware, and transporting artwork for installation and de-installation. The City will not store packaging through the duration of the loan. Loaned artwork period ends Spring 2025, with de-installation and artist pickup following. Questions may be addressed to [email protected].
