About This Call
Art on the Move is in its 14th year, bringing loaned artwork from Colorado artists to the City of Longmont for a year of creativity, enhancement and color. In 2017-2018, 11 sculptures by 10 Colorado artists were exhibited. For 2018-2019, the program is looking to exhibit up to 10 sculptures throughout the City, with a concentration in St. Stephen's Plaza, which houses five pedestals, and the remaining five locations spread throughout the City.
Colorado artists are invited to submit up to three different pieces to be considered. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand all weather conditions including intense sunlight, high winds, and freezing temperatures mixed with ice and snow. All media will be considered; however, work must adhere to space criteria as available pedestals are of set sizes. Specific installation locations include St. Stephen's Plaza (up to five sculptures on circular steel plates), Longmont Waste Diversion Center (36" steel base, preferred for recycled/repurposed materials), Kensington Park (concrete pedestal or steel base), Library/Civic Center Plaza (20" x 32" concrete pedestal), Recreation Center (concrete sidewalk or pedestal), and Roosevelt Park (exact location TBD). There is no theme this year; artists are encouraged to propose interactive, kinetic, or self-illuminating artwork. Artwork must be appropriate for public display and will not be considered if offensive, religious, or political messages may be interpreted.
Submissions must include up to three images per piece, a letter of interest/artist statement (limit 400 words), resume or CV, annotated image list with title, year, medium/materials, dimensions, current location, cost, approximate weight, and date of availability, and dimensions of base with preferred installation method. Select artists will receive a $750 stipend per piece after delivery and installation. The City is responsible for installation; the artist is responsible for delivery and pickup. Artwork will be installed in late June/early July 2018 with a dedication on July 14, 2018, and de-installed in June 2019. Submission deadline is February 2, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. A bonus opportunity is available for one empty pedestal in St. Stephen's Plaza for January 2018 installation; submissions for this must be received before January 10.
