About This Call
You are invited to submit an existing/completed sculpture for Lakewood's Art on the Commons outdoor, rotating sculpture exhibit. Six sculptures will be selected for display in Lakewood's City Commons (an urban plaza located between the Civic Center and the Cultural Center buildings with more than 60,000 visitors a year) and other prominent City of Lakewood locations. Sculptures will be installed in late May 2019 and will remain on display for one calendar year.
Selected artists will receive a $600 honorarium and will be eligible for the purchase award from the Alameda Connects, the Alameda Corridor Business Improvement District. One selected sculpture will also receive a People's Choice Award of $500. Artwork must be for sale; Lakewood will handle all sales and receive a 20 percent commission of the purchase price.
Specifications: Any style in a durable outdoor-ready medium will be considered, but artwork must be able to withstand Colorado's weather including wind. Sculpture must be a minimum of 36 inches in height with maximum base/footprint dimensions of 34 x 34 or 30" x 46". Maximum height is 15'. Pedestals will be provided by the City of Lakewood. Each submission must be capable of being welded or securely fastened to a ¼-inch steel plate. Bases must be fabricated or prepared by the artist to be ready for installation on the City's pedestal. The curator must approve the steel plate or any base provided by the artist prior to installation and reserves the right to refuse sculptures that are of poor quality or smaller or larger than represented in the submission. Artists are responsible for transport to and from the exhibit site. The artist's contract/loan agreement with the City of Lakewood must be executed before any artwork is installed. The City of Lakewood will provide insurance for the artwork during the exhibit at a mutually agreed limit.
Entry fee is $20. Artists may enter up to five works for consideration. Submit entries online via CAFE at Lakewood.org/callforentry. Eligibility is regional (Colorado). Contact: [email protected].
