About This Call

Visual and performing artists are invited to submit proposals for Art on the Atlanta BeltLine 2014. Scheduled for September through November, temporary works of visual art and performances will be exhibited along the linear greenspace of the BeltLine corridor. Now in its fifth year, this project seeks to include visual artists, performers, musicians and historic preservationists, placing working professionals alongside emerging artists.

Proposed projects should reflect the historic, environmental, cultural, functional, urban design, and/or aesthetic aspects of the sites and should be well-researched, well-planned and feasible. Examples include temporary art and sculptural installations, gateway or entrance works, performance works of all kinds (music, dance, theater, performance art), utilization of fences or screening devices, amenities for visitors (benches, bike racks, shade structures, recycling and trash receptacles), loan of existing artwork, murals, plantings or environmental works, and school or class projects. Interdisciplinary approaches, innovative uses of materials and new technologies are encouraged. Proposed materials should be modestly priced and durable with minimal maintenance in an outdoor setting. All works must be designed to be safely removed at the end of the designated period or disintegrate safely into the environment. Works and performances not suitable for all ages or containing materials deemed dangerous, toxic, or hazardous to public safety will not be accepted.

Performing artists and musicians should keep the following dates available: September 6, 7, 20, 21 and October 18, 19. Performance locations include the outdoor theater in Historic Fourth Ward Park, Gordon White Park, on the Atlanta BeltLine corridor in Reynoldstown behind H Harper Station, and on the Atlanta BeltLine corridor off Allene Ave. Submissions do not have to be site specific; following selection, artists will work with Atlanta BeltLine to select an exhibit location. Awards up to $6,000 will be presented; the average amount in previous years was $2,200. Of the total grant amount, artists should incorporate a minimum of 20 percent as an artist's fee. The award will cover design (including artist's fee), fabrication, shipping, installation, maintenance, and de-installation. Applicants may submit up to 2 applications and must provide 6 images. Information sessions will be held on March 8, 13, April 2, and April 6.
