Art on Main 2021 Window-Front Art Installations

Art on Main is a program of the City of Auburn seeking regional artists and artist teams from the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) to install 3-dimensional or multi-media art installations in a public window-front exhibition space in downtown Auburn. The exhibition space is viewable through glass windows on Main Street and is visible 24 hours a day. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend to support the creation of new work and site-specific projects, or the installation of existing work.

Eligibility is open to any individual artist or artist team in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho), including past participants. Four time slots are available for 2021: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December. Selection is based on artistic excellence, strength and creativity in concept and material implementation, ability to create innovative work that engages the public, and comfort exhibiting in a space that is locked and secure but not climate controlled and may encounter direct sunlight.

Applications are reviewed by a rotating jury of artists, arts professionals, City of Auburn Parks and Arts & Recreation employees, Arts Commission members, and neighborhood art group representatives. Selected artists will be notified in August 2020 and must sign an agreement with the City of Auburn, install and de-install their own work, partner with the city on marketing and promotion, and comply with all federal, state, and local laws. Initial stipend payment is made within 30 days after installation upon receipt of an invoice, with a portion retained until de-installation is complete. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale, with all sales handled privately; the City does not take a commission.
