About This Call
The City of Auburn seeks artists and artist teams from the Pacific Northwest to develop site-responsive public art displays for the Art on Main exhibition space. Selected artists will install 3-dimensional or multi-media art installations in a public window-front exhibition space in downtown Auburn, visible 24/7 through glass windows on Main Street.
Selected artists receive a $1,000 stipend to support the creation of new work, site-specific projects, or installation of existing work. Four installation periods are available in 2017: March 1–May 14, May 17–July 31, August 2–October 15, and October 18–January 3. Eligibility is open to any individual artist or artist team in the Pacific Northwest, including past participants. Selection is based on artistic excellence, strength and creativity of concept, material implementation, site engagement, and ability to create innovative work that engages the public.
Applications must include 5-15 digital images (JPG format, 1920 pixels on longest side), optional videos (up to 3), work sample descriptions, artist statement (500 words or less), proposal (500 words or less describing materials, concept, and installation details), and resume (3 pages or less). Selected artists must sign an agreement with the City of Auburn, install and de-install their own work, partner with the city on marketing, comply with all applicable laws, and maintain the space. Initial stipend payment is made within 30 days after installation upon receipt of invoice, with a portion retained until de-installation is complete. Artists are encouraged but not required to offer works for sale; the City takes no commission on sales.
