About This Call

The City of Raleigh Arts Commission, in partnership with Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, invites artists and artist-teams from North Carolina and the contiguous states of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina to submit work for a temporary exhibition on Raleigh's downtown City Plaza. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium and a stipend for delivery and return expenses. The exhibition will be displayed on one of three concrete pedestals embedded in City Plaza's entryway planters: two pedestals on the north entryway measuring 5' x 8' and one pedestal on the southeast measuring 10' x 10'. The weight bearing capacity of the pedestals is 4,000 pounds.

Eligibility is open to U.S. citizens 18 years of age and older who have resided in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina or Georgia for at least one year. Artists should have experience with installing and exhibiting art in outdoor public venues. Work must be suitable for display in a public setting and available for the entire exhibition period (September 2010 – September 2011). Work may be of any media; maintenance, safety, and durability are essential considerations. Only one work will be selected per artist. Work must be available for installation September 7–10, 2010, and proposals for unbuilt work will not be accepted.

Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ by 5 p.m. EDT on Monday, June 7, 2010. There is no application fee. Each application should include a statement of interest (up to 2,000 characters), a one-to-two page resume, up to seven digital images (two views of each submitted work plus up to three images of previous works), artwork specifications and information for each piece, and contact information for three references. For more information, contact Rachel Berry at Visual Art Exchange: [email protected] or 919-828-7834.
