Art of the Word

Art of the Word is a juried, visual art online exhibition showcasing visual narratives that incorporate words or characters, creating a fusion of art and language. The exhibition is a virtual showcase where every page of the catalog unveils the creation of a different artist. The catalog will be published on November 15, 2023, on the museum's catalog tab.

Artists and photographers worldwide are invited to participate. The exhibition will select 100 artists for the catalog, with three artists featured in a four-page spread to showcase three of their best images and an artist profile. Student, amateur, and professional artists are eligible. All work must be original; no copies or work from commercially prepared kits or molds will be accepted. No artist teams are permitted.

Entry fees are $30 for the first submission and $15 for each additional entry (up to 10 total submissions). Sasse Museum of Art members receive a 50% discount. Submissions must be in JPEG format with a minimum size of 2700 pixels on the long dimension, 300 ppi resolution, and image quality of 10 or above. Files should be labeled as last name_first name-title. The jury includes Fatemeh Burnes (Los Angeles-based artist, educator, and curator), Maurice Quillinan (Irish artist with work in 34 countries), and Niamh Cunningham (Beijing-based visual artist).
