Art of the State: Pennsylvania

Art of the State is an annual juried exhibition open to Pennsylvania artists and craftspeople, held at The State Museum of Pennsylvania. Presented by The State Museum of Pennsylvania in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, the 54th Art of the State exhibition offers cash awards for selected entries in the categories of Painting, Work on Paper, Photography & Digital Media, Sculpture, and Craft.

Eligibility: Artists must be current residents of Pennsylvania and 18+ years of age. Work must have been created within the past three years (March 2018-March 2021). Size is limited to 12 feet x 12 feet, 150 lbs. in all categories. All work must be freestanding and/or ready to hang. The entry fee is $30 for up to 4 works of art. Submissions must be uploaded to the competition website and include an insurance value for each work submitted.

Awards: First Place Award of $500 and Second Place Award of $300 will be distributed in each of five categories. Additional awards include the William D. Davis Memorial Award for Drawing ($250) and the Art Docents' Choice Award ($300). The State Museum may also select a Purchase Award by choosing a work for its permanent collection. The exhibition opens September 26, 2021, and closes January 2, 2022. Art delivery is August 21-28, 2021. Art retrieval is January 8-15, 2022. All artists will be notified by email of judging results. The State Museum encourages the sale of exhibited work and does not take any commission.
