About This Call
Art of the State is an annual juried exhibition open to Pennsylvania artists and craftspeople, held at The State Museum of Pennsylvania. Presented by The State Museum of Pennsylvania in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, the 58th Art of the State exhibition offers cash awards for selected entries in five categories: Painting, Work on Paper, Photography & Digital Media, Sculpture, and Craft.
Eligibility: Artists must be current Pennsylvania residents, 18 years or older, with work created within the past three years (October 2021 or later). The entry fee is $30 for up to 4 works of art. Submissions must include an artist statement and resume. Work must be original and comply with intellectual property law. Work must be able to fit through available entrances with specific size limitations: passenger elevator (39.75" W x 83.5" H, car 75" W x 89" H x 43" D, 88" diagonal), escalator (29.5" W x 90.5" H, 30" W), or public stairwell (50.5" W x 86" H). Artists can submit up to 4 images and/or 4 videos (minimum 1 total sample). For three-dimensional work, artists may be asked to submit additional views. A.I.-generated art will not be accepted.
Awards: First Place ($500), Second Place ($300), and Third Place ($200) will be awarded in each of the five categories. The State Museum Art Docents' Choice Award ($300) will also be presented. The exhibition runs from June 8 through September 14, 2025. Entry deadline: Friday, January 17, 2025, 11:59 PM. Jury dates: January 24 - February 28, 2026. Notification of results will be sent via email the week of March 10. Art delivery: April 12-19. Reception and awards ceremony: Sunday, June 8. Art retrieval: September 20-27. Entry assistance available by email and phone Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
