Art of the Sea

This exhibition is sponsored by the National Maritime Historical Society and the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA). Artists must be current members of ASMA to participate; non-members may join ASMA and then apply.

Artwork must be inspired by water, including vessels, waterways, coastal scenes, and marine life. Accepted media include all painting mediums, drawings, pastel, sculpture, and scrimshaw. Digital artwork will not be accepted. All work must be for sale and available to ship between June 1st and July 1st, 2025. Artists will receive 75% of sales; 25% benefits the National Maritime Historical Society and is tax-deductible for the buyer.

Entry fees are $35 for the first work and $10 for each additional work. Submissions must be high-quality JPEG files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. Images should show only the artwork without matting, frames, or background distractions, and must be oriented correctly. The entry deadline is April 15, 2025. Awards include 1st Place ($2,000), 2nd Place ($1,000), 3rd Place ($500), and three Merit Awards ($200 each).
