Art of the No National Juried Exhibition

The Art of No! National Juried Exhibition at Diablo Valley College Art Gallery celebrates the long history and current renaissance of No in art. The exhibition explores how the concept of refusal and negation has been central to avant-garde art, particularly since the Dadaists during World War I. Throughout the 20th century, No has recurred in feminist, anti-war, social justice, and worker's rights contexts. This exhibition collects art of diverse media, perspectives, and means that explores No in a variety of ways, highlighting the benefits of negativity without advocating for any one political or social position.

The exhibition runs September 3 through October 1, 2013, with an opening reception on September 5. The juror is Kristen Koblik, Diablo Valley College Professor of Art History. Open to all artists 18 years or older presently residing in the United States. Entry fee is $30 per artist for a minimum of three works, with $5 added per each additional work (maximum 6 works). All media accepted, including digital media. Selected works must be framed or otherwise prepared and ready to hang with no size limits but must be installation ready.

Shipped works must arrive by August 23, 2013, and hand delivery is accepted August 19-23 during arranged hours. Unless specified "NFS," all works will be offered for sale with a 30% commission to the gallery. Payment to artists will be mailed after the close of the show. Jury notification occurs July 23.
