Art of the Book

Art of the Book is an exhibition curated by altered book and mixed media artist LorriMarie Jenkins. The show invites artists to transform books and allow them to tell another story. Using books as a foundation, artists are encouraged to tear them apart and use their pages, or leave them intact and alter them into new works of art through sewing, painting, folding, collaging, or other techniques.

The exhibition accepts two categories: Altered Books, which use all or part of a book as the starting point for a new work of art in forms such as sculpture, collage, assemblage, or jewelry; and Book Art Objects, which are books created using traditional fine art bookbinding techniques or unique materials and techniques. The exhibit is open to all artists internationally. A maximum of 2 pieces can be entered per artist. Entry fee is $25.00 plus a $2.00 media fee. All entries must be submitted as high-resolution (300dpi) jpeg images not exceeding 5MB through the CaFE website.

Awards include 1st place $100.00, 2nd place $50.00, 3rd place $25.00, and 4th place Honorable Mention. All accepted artwork will be displayed in the gallery and available for sale during the exhibition (May 11 – June 9, 2018). Artists are responsible for delivery and pick-up of artwork during the specified dates (Art Delivery: May 3rd; Pick-up: June 11th-30th). The gallery is located at 1038 1st Street, Benicia, CA 94510.
