About This Call
Art Melt 2013 is open to artists ages 18 or older residing in Louisiana. The event celebrates its 10th anniversary and promotes professional artists throughout the state while providing an opportunity for the public to experience fine art, music, performing arts, and culinary creation. The event is free and open to the public. Art Melt will open Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 5-10 p.m. at the Louisiana State Museum in downtown Baton Rouge along 4th Street. All artwork accepted to the competition will remain on display in the Louisiana State Museum gallery for six weeks following Art Melt.
Artwork must be original and produced within the past two years. No reproductions are accepted. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable) and includes up to 3 submissions and images for one artist. Submissions must include 1-3 images. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 72 inches in any direction and must be framed or gallery wrapped with white mattes only. Sculpture dimensions must not exceed 84 inches by 50 inches and must not weigh more than 100 pounds. All work must be finished to museum quality and ready for gallery installation.
Awards include First Place $2000, Second Place $1000, and Third Place $500. Forum 35 will take a 33% commission on all works sold. Selected works will be presented blindly to a jury of non-committee members consisting of museum curators and recognized art professionals. Works chosen for the exhibit will have "On Premises" insurance only. Accepted works must be hand delivered to the Louisiana State Museum lobby (660 North 4th Street) between 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on July 12-13, 2013. Works must be picked up by the artist or designated representative on Saturday, August 24 between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. A storage fee of $10.00 per day will be charged for entries after August 24th.
