About This Call
This is an open competition for professional artists residing in the Northwest United States (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Northern California) to create a public artwork for the Cascade Culinary Institute Plaza at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon.
The plaza is approximately 1/2 acre and will serve as the primary gathering space and "heart" of a new mixed-use development. The artwork should serve as an "identifying signature" and landmark for the culinary institute building and COCC. The committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit, the artist's past experience, and ability to work in large scale. There are no restrictions on artistic interpretation. The work must be fabricated in durable, permanent, outdoor media that is safe, easily maintained, and has proven viability in public artworks. The scale should be appropriate to the plaza site. Teams of artists are welcome to apply.
Funds available for the commission do not exceed $75,000, provided through a matching program by Brooks Resources and the Bend Foundation. The completed and installed sculpture becomes the property of COCC. Reproduction rights will be shared with Art in Public Places, ArtMatch, and COCC for public relations, advertising, and educational purposes, but artists retain rights to use images of their work. Submit a current resume, 4 artwork images, and a statement of interest by December 8, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of finalists: mid-December 2008. Presentation of models/proposals by finalists: mid-February 2009. Selection: March 2009. Installation: November 2010. Questions may be directed to Marcelene Trujillo at [email protected].
