About This Call
The Art Jewelry Forum's Emerging Artist Award acknowledges promise, innovation, and individuality in the work of emerging jewelry artists and helps advance their careers. The $5,000 award consists of a $4,000 award and $1,000 for travel to attend the award presentation at SOFA Chicago.
The competition is open to makers of wearable art jewelry who have completed their academic or professional training, have been out of school (undergraduate) for one year or more, and have not had a solo artist exhibition in a commercial gallery or museum. Work submitted must have been unsupervised if from an academic setting.
Applicants must submit a current one-page resume, an artist statement of approximately 200 words or less than 1000 characters relating to the work submitted, and ten digital images of up to 8 pieces of work. One image must show a piece being worn. Each image must include the artist name, title of piece, dimensions, year produced, and materials. For every image submitted, the winning applicant must have a high-resolution (300dpi or higher TIFF file) immediately available to AJF for use in print media.
The 2010 jurors are Namita Wiggers (Curator, Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, Oregon), Susan Beech (long-standing AJF member and collector of contemporary jewelry), and Sharon Massey (jewelry artist and 2009 AJF Emerging Artist Award recipient). The Art Jewelry Forum, founded in 1997, is a non-profit organization with the mission to advocate the field of contemporary art jewelry by promoting education, appreciation, and support for contemporary art jewelry.
