About This Call
The Art Jewelry Forum's Artist Award for Emerging Artists recognizes promise, innovation, and individuality in contemporary jewelry art and helps advance emerging artists' careers. The award consists of an unrestricted cash award of $7,500.
The competition is open to makers of wearable art jewelry who are 35 years of age or younger at the application deadline and not currently enrolled in an academic or professional training program. Work submitted must be unsupervised; work from BFA/MFA shows may not be submitted. All work must have been completed between 2012-2014. Applicants who applied previously must submit new work and may not resubmit work from prior applications.
Applicants must submit: a current one-page resume, an artist statement of approximately 200 words or less than 1000 characters, and ten digital images showing 6-7 pieces of work. One image must show a piece being worn, and one must show the back of a piece. Each image must include the artist name, title of piece, dimensions, year produced, and materials. The winning artist must provide high-resolution (300dpi or higher) TIFF files for all submitted images (except the worn piece and back view) for use in print media. Five finalists will be selected from which the winning artist will be chosen. Jurors include Sooyeon Kim (2013 award winner), Carin Reinders (Director of Coda Museum, Apeldoorn, Netherlands), and Karen Rotenberg (collector and Founder/Director of Alianza Contemporary Craft). The deadline for submission is midnight Mountain Time on September 30, 2014. Incomplete or late entries will not be accepted.
