About This Call
The Art Jewelry Forum's Artist Award for an emerging artist acknowledges promise, innovation, and individuality in the work of emerging jewelry artists and helps advance their careers. The award consists of an unrestricted cash award of $7,500.
The competition is open to makers of wearable art jewelry who have completed their academic or professional training and have been out of school for at least one year but not more than six years prior to the submission date, and who have not had a solo exhibit in a commercial gallery or museum nor have one scheduled. Work submitted must have been unsupervised; work from BFA/MFA shows may not be submitted. Applicants must submit a current one-page resume, a brief description of why they perceive themselves to be at an emergent point in their career and how the award will impact their career trajectory (approximately 100 words), and an artist statement relating to the work submitted (approximately 200 words or less than 1000 characters).
Applicants must submit ten digital images showing 6-7 pieces of work. One image must show a piece being worn, and one must show the back of a piece. Each image must include the artist name, title of piece, dimensions, year produced, and materials. For every image submitted (except for the piece being worn and the back of a piece), the winning applicant must have a high-resolution (300dpi or higher) TIFF file immediately available to AJF for use in print media. The submission deadline is midnight Mountain Time on June 30, 2013. Five finalists will be selected as short-listed artists, and the winning artist will be selected from this group. Jurors for the 2013 competition are Noon Passama (2012 award winner), Lindsay Pollack (Editor in Chief of Art in America), and Ruudt Peters (vanguard artist jeweler and Professor of Jewelry at Alchimia Jewelry School, Florence, Italy). The Art Jewelry Forum, founded in 1997, is a non-profit organization with the mission to advocate the field of contemporary art jewelry by promoting education, appreciation, and support for contemporary art jewelry.
