About This Call
The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS), in partnership with Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), is seeking emerging artists pre-qualified through the Public Art Boot Camp and Emerging Public Artist Roster to develop temporary artworks for Art Interruptions 2020 in the Northwest Seattle Neighborhood Greenway located in the Licton Springs neighborhood. Artists will be chosen by a selection committee to create temporary artworks to be exhibited for approximately 12 months between August 1, 2020 and August 14, 2021.
This call is open to Washington State emerging artists currently residing in King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Selected artists will design and develop small-scale temporary artworks to be installed on City-owned street furniture and infrastructure (signal boxes, utility poles, railings, sidewalks, street trees, tree pits, etc.) along the neighborhood greenway. Artworks should draw attention through surprise, contemplation, beauty, or humor, and must not cause damage to City property or obscure City signage. Artists are expected to design and install artwork that can be de-installed by the artist, and to maintain the artwork over the 12-month display period. At the end of the installation dates, the artwork site must be returned to its previous condition.
Submissions must include eight images of past artworks, a statement of interest (written, audio, or video), artist bio, and concept proposal specific to the scope of work. The concept proposal should convey your approach including methods, materials, and themes. Selected artists will receive $6,000, with 40% upon acceptance of final proposal, 40% after documented installation, and 20% after documented de-installation and project summary. The project schedule includes artist notification by April 28, 2020, mandatory orientation on May 5, 2020, final proposal due June 2, 2020, installation August 6-12, 2020, and de-installation August 1-14, 2021.
