About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a global art project launched by Dab Art Co. in April 2020 in response to the pandemic. The project selects 30-40 new artists each month for exhibition and has selected almost 1000 artists to participate. The goal is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. The project runs through 2023 and is divided into three phases.
Phase 1 features an ongoing online exhibition updated monthly, with all selected artists and artworks featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY, which receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly. Phase 2 includes a full color publication titled ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ | Vol. 3, to be released in Summer 2023, featuring all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The publication will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists from the online exhibition will receive additional features in the publication and a hardback copy of the book. Phase 3 consists of multi-gallery exhibitions at all Dab Art Co. locations scheduled for Spring 2023, with selections made by January 31, 2023. A documentary film short featuring selected artists will be screened in Los Angeles upon project completion.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images). An optional video consultation with the gallery director is available for $100. All work selected must remain available for sale for the duration of the project. Notifications for online exhibition selections are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Gallery requirements include original, unsold work with sole copyright ownership; professional quality frames, mats, and wiring; and 2D artwork must be ready to hang. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance.
