About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a global art project launched by Dab Art Co. in April 2020 in response to the pandemic. The project selects 30-40 new artists each month for exhibition and has selected almost 1000 artists to participate. The goal is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. The project runs from 2020-2023 and is divided into three phases.
Phase 1 features an ongoing online exhibition updated monthly, with artworks reviewed and juried monthly. Selected artists and artworks will be featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY, an international sales platform that receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly. The online exhibition continues through March 2023. Phase 2 includes a full color 8.5x11 inch art book published in February 2023, featuring all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The publication will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists will receive additional features in the publication and a hardback copy. Phase 3 consists of multi-gallery 8-week exhibitions held simultaneously in 4 cities: Los Angeles (CA), Ventura (CA), Austin (TX), and Mexico City (MX) in Spring 2023. A documentary film short will also be produced and screened in Los Angeles.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images, with additional images at $5 each (maximum 20 images). An optional video consultation with the gallery director is available for $100. All work selected must remain available for sale for the duration of the project. Notifications are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Gallery exhibition notifications will be sent by January 31, 2023. All work must be original, unsold, with the artist owning sole copyright. 2D artwork must be ready to hang with professional quality frames, mats, and wiring.
