About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a global art project launched by Dab Art Co. in April 2020 in response to the pandemic. The project selects 30-40 new artists each month for exhibition and has selected almost 1000 artists to participate. The goal is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. Year 3 of this 3-year comprehensive project runs through 2023 and includes an ongoing online exhibition (updated monthly), a full color publication, international and multi-city gallery exhibitions, and a documentary film short.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media and new genres. Submissions require a minimum of 3 images and a maximum of 20 images. The entry fee is $35 for 3 images, with additional images at $5 each. An optional video consultation with the gallery director is available for $100. All selected work must remain available for sale for the entirety of the project. Notifications are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Notifications for gallery exhibitions will be sent by January 31, 2023.
Phase 1 features an online exhibition running through March 2023, with artists and artworks featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY platform. Phase 2 includes publication of a full color art book in February 2023, with 10 featured artists receiving additional recognition and a hardback copy. The book will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Phase 3 consists of multi-gallery 8-week exhibitions scheduled for spring 2023 in Los Angeles, Ventura, Austin, and Mexico City. A documentary film short will be produced and screened in Los Angeles.
