About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a comprehensive three-year pandemic art project launched by Dab Art Co. in April 2020. The project selects 30-40 new artists each month for exhibition, with nearly 1000 artists already participating in Year 3. The goal is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty.
The project consists of three phases: Phase 1 features an ongoing online exhibition (updated monthly) running through March 2023, with selected artworks featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY platform (which receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly). Phase 2 includes a full-color publication titled ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ | Vol. 3, to be released in February 2023, featuring all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The publication will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists will receive additional features (bio, artist photo, curator notes) and hardback copies. Phase 3 consists of multi-gallery exhibitions held simultaneously in four cities: Los Angeles (CA), Ventura (CA), Austin (TX), and Mexico City (MX), scheduled for spring 2023. A documentary film short featuring Year 3 selected artists will also be produced and screened in Los Angeles.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images). An optional video consultation with the gallery director is available for $100. All selected work must remain available for sale for the duration of the project and must be original, unsold work with sole copyright owned by the artist. Notifications are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Gallery exhibition notifications will be sent by January 31, 2023.
