About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a global art project launched by Dab Art Co. in April 2020 in response to the pandemic. The project selects 30-40 new artists each month for exhibition and has selected almost 1000 artists to participate. The goal is to record and exhibit defining artwork created during civil uncertainty. The project runs through 2023 and is divided into three phases: an ongoing online exhibition (updated monthly), a full color publication, and multi-city gallery exhibitions.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Submissions require a minimum of 3 images and a maximum of 20 images. The entry fee is $35 for 3 images, with additional images at $5 each. An optional video consultation with the gallery director is available for $100. All work selected online must remain available for sale for the entirety of the project. Notifications for online exhibition selections are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Gallery exhibition notifications will be sent by January 31, 2023. Selected artists for gallery exhibitions will be given sufficient time to prepare their work and make shipping or delivery arrangements prior to the exhibit date.
The publication will be released in summer 2023 and will include all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The book will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists from the online show will receive an additional feature in the publication and a hardback copy of the exhibition book. Gallery exhibitions will be held at all Dab Art Co. locations in spring/summer 2023. A documentary film short featuring selected artists will be screened in Los Angeles, California upon project completion.
