About This Call
The Dab Art Co. has launched ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™, a 3-year comprehensive art project that includes an ongoing online exhibition, a full color publication of selected works (published yearly), a multi-gallery international exhibition, and a documentary film. The project aims to record and exhibit artwork created during civil uncertainty, with the goal of uniting viewers and helping them find inspiration and comfort during turbulent times.
The project consists of three phases. Phase 1 features an online exhibition running through March 2023, with artworks reviewed and added daily as entries arrive. Selected artists and artworks will be featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY, which receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly. Weekly YouTube videos will highlight selections, artist interviews, guest jurors, and project updates. Phase 2 includes publication of a full-color 8.5x11 inch art book in February 2021, featuring all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The publication will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists will receive additional features (bio, artist photo, and curator notes) and hardback copies of the book. Phase 3 consists of an 8-week multi-gallery exhibition simultaneously in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Mexico City, beginning Spring 2021, followed by a documentary film screening in Los Angeles in April 2021.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images). An optional consultation with the gallery curator is available for $50. Notifications are sent via email within 2 weeks after the close of each calendar month. Gallery exhibition notifications will be sent by January 31, 2021. All selected work must remain available for sale for the entirety of the project and must be original, unsold work with the artist owning sole copyright. 2D artwork must be ready to hang with professional-quality frames, mats, and wiring. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance.
